How long is your growing season?  With Square Foot Gardening and a frame with some plastic covering it, you will be surprised how much you can extend the growing season.

We will harvest cold weather plants; beets, kale, lettuce, radishes and Swiss chard through the end of December.  If the snow cooperates  we will be planting broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, beets, carrots, radishes and kale in the covered raised beds by the fifteenth of February.  By the 21st the sun is 1/3 of the way back to full sunshine.  Inside the covered garden the temperatures in the Boston area can get into the 80’s during the day.  The raised bed and loose soil helps maintain above freezing temperatures at night.   Even if the enclosure itself is cold the plants can maintain themselves.

It is time to plan for the next season.  Go organic.
